San Francisco Classical Voice reviewed Meagan Rao’s performance of Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia as superb. “Rao’s exceptionally pure soprano was an ear opener... Her charming sweetness and youthful innocence screamed Zerbinetta.” Rao was a Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artist, and she covered Zerbinetta as well as performed Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos in the summer of 2019.
In 2023, Rao collaborated with guitarist Stephan Kane, performing a selection of songs by Rodrigo and de Falla in Berlin for the Michael Battel concert series, blending the richness of classical guitar with the evocative power of Spanish Lieder. Rao was a featured soloist in several concerts for the company, Musik für Musik in 2023 and 2024. In 2021, Rao performed Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte in Lyric Opera Studio Weimar. In 2018, she was awarded the Ellie Silver Memorial Award in the Henry and Maria Holt Memorial Scholarship competition in Palo Alto. In 2017, Rao received the Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in San Francisco and second place in East Bay Opera League. Rao’s other roles include Meleagro in Atalanta and First Cercatrice in Suor Angelica at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she received her Bachelor of Music, and received her Master of Music in 2019 under the tutelage of César Ulloa.
